What is Elimination Communication

Babies are born ready to potty train

In cultures where disposable diapers don't exist and where mother's carry there babies throughout the day, babies signal their mothers when they need to go. Mothers will stop on the side of the road, or wherever they are and blow their baby to relieve themselves. This is Elimination Communication.

In 1950, most children were potty trained by 18 months

Today, with so many children wearing disposable diapers and modern marketing, the average age that a child completes potty training in US is 30 months. Kids can still be potty independent by 18 months, or sooner.

Elimination Communication (like offering nap time and breastfeeding) just plain starts early. Babies are born signaling, born wanting to stay hygienic and dry (to not sit in their waste)…born ready! Conventional potty training theoretically begins when baby is “ready,” ranging from 18-36 months of age. You might not be aware that EC can start on day one, even in tiny, doable ways (though you may start at any age – 0-18 months – that works for you)….
